November 1, 2018 – Austin, TX – Singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, David Thomas Jones, is premiering his new single“Super Collider” exclusively today with Ovrld. Stream here. “Gleefully anarchic and wrapped up in the fuzzy intensity of early ’90s Flaming Lips, ‘Super Collider’ also soars with cosmic ambition”, Ovrld notes. “Every melodic component, from Jones’ voice to the lead guitars to the backing choir that emerges in the bridge, [competes] for space amongst the stars.” “Super Collider” is the second single, following “In Springtime”, from Jones’ upcoming album, Occult Years, due out 11/13. Recorded at Jones-Sound in Austin with James Jones (Jackson Rathbone, Hard Proof, TV Torso), Occult Years chronicles the tumult of someone attempting to navigate and rectify the boundaries between the inner world to which they’ve retreated, and the zeitgeist, ultimately deciding it might be better, or even necessary, to remain looking inward. “Super Collider” kicks it off with an anthemically galactic view, declaring that “one dimension eats the other…no reflection of the truth”. In “(I Do The) Old Man Shuffle”, Jones admits, “I let go of my dreams, and now I’m clean and free”. Inspired by Haruki Murakami’s ‘The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle’,“The Well”, Jones sings he’s, “trying to find a life outside and maybe turn it around”. In “Paint My Nails”, Jones asks, “How is everyone getting along when I’m out to sea?” The final song, “Hang Tight”, Jones sings, “You saw the world, thought nothing of it…You’re not alone…”, and warns against people who “keep you haunted” and “drop the curtain on your scene”.
Occult Years is the first solo release from Jones since his 2012 debut, Comfort Creatures, which garnered positive reviews with publications such as Austin Chronicle and The Deli, and had songs featured in MTV’s Catfish and IFC’s Maron. During this six year gap leading up to Occult Years, Jones wrote music for and acted in the film ‘Mr. Roosevelt’ (starring SNL alum Noël Wells). The fictitious band from the film, The Leeks, is a collaboration between Jones and Daniella Pineda (Jurassic World), and is featured on the Mr. Roosevelt Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. He has also performed with Noël Wells’ own band The Marys.
