HALLOWEEN 2018 brought an amazing “spooky” line-up of John 5, Wednesday 13, and the Hellzapoppin Circus Sideshow to Cincinnati, Ohio
I was so excited when I heard that John 5, Wednesday 13, and the Hellzapoppin Circus announced they all would be performing at the Blue Note in Harrison, OH on Halloween! What a cool way to celebrate one of my favorite days by seeing some of my favorite acts!
The night started off with the Hellzapoppin Circus Sideshow. I’ve seen this group before at other festivals and they always entertain the crowd. Hellzapoppin is well know for performing acts of the bizarre, scary, and dangerous. This troupe of performers truly mesmerized the crowd with their death-defying stunts! The MC, Bryce “the Govna” Graves, eats fire and drives a drill bit up into his nose. There was also the Lizard Man who pierces his face with a corkscrew, which was crazy to watch! The next performer I witnessed was the “half-man” Short E Dangerously. Short E has a table set up with broken bottles that are set on fire. After setting fire to the glass, Short E proceeds to walk on his hands over the burning glass. The final performer was Nik Sin who is only 3 feet tall and was carried on stage wearing a straitjacket. The crew hung Nik upside down from the ceiling and let Nik do his work. Nik spun around furiously while hanging from the ceiling and trying to get loose. After a few minutes Nik had successfully removed the straightjacket and was free. All around amazing acts by this group, they are extremely entertaining to watch.
Next up was Wednesday 13 and things were about to get more spooky! Wednesday 13 took the stage and fired up the crowd with the song “Too Fast For Blood” and then rolled into the next song “Scream Baby Scream”. Wednesday 13 was wearing some very cool make-up and was also casting eerie stares at the crowd. Wednesday changed outfits a few times during his set and added a few props like a bloody axe, and later wielded a pitchfork while wearing a devil mask. Midway through the set the band fired up one of the funniest songs I’ve heard live, “Your Mother Sucks Cocks In Hell”. The lyrics for this song were definitely not kid friendly but are hilarious! While playing this song, Wednesday and guitarist Roman would hold their hands in the air as if they were stroking, well.. a bunch of cocks! Wednesday 13 played a number of great songs throughout the set including, “Gimmie Gimmie Bloodshed”, “From Here To The Hearse”, and “Die My Bride”. The mix of theatrics and kick ass music was such a great fit for this Halloween night! Wednesday 13 are a great act to catch year round but seeing them on Halloween was definitely special!

John 5 and The Creatures was the final act of the night and wow did he put on an amazing show! I’ve seen John 5 and The Creatures perform several times now and each time has been a blast! John 5 is one of the most talented guitarist in the industry and seeing him perform with The Creatures truly showcases his talents and love of guitar. The stage was setup with jack o’ lanterns, some blow-up Halloween decorations, and various other creepy/scary items galore. Prior to John 5 and The Creatures taking the stage we were welcomed by Michael Myers walking on stage and throwing some candy around. After Michael left the stage John 5 and The Creatures walked out and started their killer performance. John 5 showed off a number of guitars while performing songs from his 2014 album “Careful With That Axe”. A few songs in, John 5 brought out one of my favorite guitars he shows off at his concerts, a Fender filled with florescent green lava lamp like material. John moves the guitar around while the black lights light up the fluid inside the guitar. This guitar is one of the coolest ever! Later John 5 brings out a banjo, a tiny guitar, and a violin bow to pull across the guitar strings which sounds awesome! As the show was wrapping up, John 5 and The Creatures broke out into a melody with guitar riffs of Metallica, Van Halen, Rob Zombie, and Marilyn Manson. The mixture of the guitars, music, and the spooky scenery all made for a very cool Halloween performance!
Get out there and see these bands as soon as possible! They are all so fun to see live.
