Breaking Benjamin Packs Bogart’s in Cincinnati 1/27/17

The metal-tinged alternative rock band Breaking Benjamin has been touring their ass’s off since the release of the highly successful “Dark Before Dawn” album in June 2015. Ben Burnly, the band’s the leader and only remaining original member, reformed the band with four new musicians in 2014 after a 4-year hiatus.  Although they are at the tail end of this tour, they continue to pack venues like Bogart’s.  It’s their third appearance in the Cincinnati area (July 2015 at the Madison Theater and July 2017 at Riverbend) and yet they still sold out Friday night’s show.  They also hit nearby Columbus three times in the past couple years as well.

The crowd was in a frenzy throughout the night but especially reacted to the The Imperial March (Darth Vader Theme)/Schism/Smells Like Teen Spirit/Walk medley. Another highpoint was when they jumped into Blow Me Away after dimming the lights and letting the crowd get quite. Notably, they ended the show by Burnly thanking the military, police, firefighters, and other service officials for keeping us safe and enabling us to enjoy music and go about our daily lives. He also mentioned they have been touring Cincinnati for over 10 years and wants to continue to play venues the size of Bogart’s where he can stay in touch with the crowd. The encore began with an introduction of the band members with a special introduction (and drum solo) of Shaun Foist from nearby Middletown, Oh.  This led into their standard encore The Diary of Jane.  The 1,500 fans left pumped.
