BIO:
A Wizard, A True Star. The title of Todd Rundgren’s 1973 solo album aptly sums up the contributions of this multi-faceted artist to state-of-the-art music. As a songwriter, video pioneer, producer, recording artist, computer software developer, conceptualist, and interactive artist (re-designated TR-i), Rundgren has made a lasting impact on both the form and content of popular music.Born and raised in Philadelphia, Rundgren began playing guitar as a teenager, going on to found and front The Nazz, the quintessential `60’s cult group. In 1969, he left the band to pursue a solo career, recording his debut offering, the legendary Runt. But it was 1972’s seminal Something/Anything?, on which he played all the instruments, sang all the vocal parts, and acted as his own producer, that catapulted Todd into the superstar limelight, prompting the press to unanimously dub him ‘Rock’s New Wunderkind’. It was followed by such landmark LPs as The Hermit of Mink Hollow and the above mentioned A Wizard, A True Star, as well as such hit singles as I Saw The Light, Hello It’s Me, Can We Still Be Friends, and Bang The Drum.
In 1974, Todd formed Utopia, an entirely new approach to the concept of interactive musicianship, and embarked on an extensive round of touring and recording. Standout Utopia offerings included Oops! Wrong Planet, Adventures in Utopia, and Oblivion. Along the way, Utopia combined technical virtuosity and creative passion to create music that, for millions, defined the term “progressive rock.”
Rundgren’s myriad production projects include albums by Patti Smith, Cheap Trick, Psychedelic Furs, Meatloaf, XTC, Grand Funk Railroad, and Hall And Oates. Rounding out his reputation as rock’s Renaissance Man, Rundgren composed all the music and lyrics for Joe Papp’s 1989 Off-Broadway production of Joe Orton’s Up Against It (the screenplay commissioned by The Beatles for what was meant to have been their third motion picture). He also has composed the music for a number of television series, including Pee Wee’s Playhouse and Crime Story.
In 2012 Rundgren performed his iconic 1973 album A Wizard A True Star in concert in its entirety for the first time ever, and last year did the same with a double bill: Todd & Healing. His most recent studio album, GLOBAL, was released in April 2015; his latest studio album, White Knight, is set for release in Spring 2017. He continues to tour with Ringo Starr as an erstwhile member of the All-Starr Band, and to perform with symphony orchestras both domestically and internationally. On the heels of the band’s 30th anniversary, multi-platinum rock mavericks Blues Traveler will release their 13th studio album through BMG October 12.Entitled, Hurry Up & Hand Around, the 12-track opus finds the band re-energized and laser-focused stirring up an intoxicating brew of rowdy rock, smoky psychedelica, southern folk, staggering soul, and brash blues.
For the first time ever, the members of the Grammy Award-winning group, featuring John Popper (vocals, harmonica), Chan Kinchla (guitar), Tad Kinchla (bass), Ben Wilson (keyboards), and Brendan Hill (drums) decided to rent a house in Nashville to write and record with Grammy Award-winning producer Matt Rollings (Willie Nelson). Rollings’ intense attention to detail unlocked a rich sonic spectrum as he challenged and pushed each member to excel without compromising or taking “no” for an answer.
“We were going through some changes as far as our infrastructure goes,” admits Popper. “We parted ways with two different managers. No preparations had really been made, and it seemed like it might be too late to make a new music. Between taking meetings, we were by ourselves writing in the garage every day of this Nashville house. That was pretty cool, because we felt like a garage band again. There was a spirit of survival. We had something to celebrate, so we really came together as a band.”
“Matt put it all on turbo boost, because he’s one of the finest producers we’ve ever worked with, period,” adds Popper. “He can bring out any sound he wants. He got takes out of me that I couldn’t ever get out of myself, and I’ve tried. However, he also let me be me. It’s one of the best production experiences we’ve ever had. It was an unexpected musical education.” Don’t miss Blues Traveler at Newport Music Hall on October 31st!

ON-SALE: June 29, 2018
BIO:
Melding the melodic sense of indie rock with the intimate sound of acoustic folk music, Birdtalker have won a loyal following for their evocative, organic approach. The Nashville-based group was formed in 2012 by guitarist and singer Zack Green and keyboardist and singer Dani Green, who is also Zack’s spouse. The two had only recently been married when Zack decided to write a song, and he asked Dani, who had studied writing as an English major, to help with the lyrics. The two were happy with the results and decided to pen more tunes together. Andy Hubright, a good friend of Zack’s and Dani’s, heard some of their songs and began stopping by their place to accompany the couple on percussion as they worked out new material. In the summer of 2013, the trio made their public debut with an unusual gig, performing a short set before a local outdoor production of William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night. Brian Seligman, who knew Zack’s sister’s boyfriend, saw the performance and introduced himself to the musicians, complimenting them and asking them to jam. Seligman soon became part of the group, playing mandolin and guitar. Birdtalker rehearsed and performed as a quartet for roughly a year until Jesse Baker, a fan of the group, approached them, offering to play bass. After extensive live work, the quintet made their recorded debut in June 2016 with the digital single “Heavy.” Two months later, the song appeared on a six-song EP, Just This. Early 2018 saw the release of the fiery anti-hypocrisy-themed single “Outside the Lines” in advance of the full-length One, which arrived later that June.
