Review of “Place in Time” – Roadrunner Records debut EP from Joyous Wolf!

By Cathy Moore

On April 19, Southern California-based rock band Joyous Wolf released their Roadrunner Records debut EP, Place in Time. I feel like I’ve been waiting forever for this album. I’ve seen these guys live numerous times, hung out with them on Shiprocked, and got to know them through various interviews. They are such cool guys and their talent and energy is completely undeniable. I knew their debut album would be a musical masterpiece, and I was right.

The members of Joyous Wolf, Nick Reese (vocals), Blake Allard (guitar), Greg Braccio (bass), and Robert Sodaro (drums) have created a compilation of songs that perfectly showcase their musicality and range of talents. Place In Time is highlighted by lead singles “Quiet Heart” and the EP’s title track, “Place In Time.” Both of these songs have driving rhythms and intense guitar pieces. The lyrics are impassioned and Reese’s vocal texture and tone are so soulful and rich.

The guys take it down just a bit for “Feel The Low” which is much slower and softer than the other tracks on the EP, but it delivers just as much intensity. I really love the wild energy Joyous Wolf typically delivers in their songs, but honestly I think this is my favorite song on the EP. It’s just such a powerful ballad that grips your heart and soul.

Never fear though – the group returns to the hard and heavy rock and roll with the last two tracks  “Mother Rebel” and “Undesired” – which is a close second for my favorite track on the EP. This final track is the perfect musical display of all that Joyous Wolf is – fast, fun, fierce and fiery.

Currently on tour in the U.S. with Buckcherry, Joyous Wolf has also been announced to perform at this year’s Louder Than Life Festival on Friday, September 27th in Louisville, KY. Tickets for all dates are on sale now. For a full tour itinerary and additional ticket info visit, www.joyouswolf.com.

There is no doubt that Place in Time is going to catapult Joyous Wolf to super stardom. Fusing together influences ranging from heavy metal to Delta blues, Joyous Wolf creates an expressive, high-energy fingerprint that separates them from their contemporaries in the realm of modern rock. Experience it for yourself. Pick up a copy of Place in Time and catch these rockers live as soon as possible.
