| Rosu Lup is the musical project of songwriters Jonathan Stewart and Andrew Marsh, who kicked off their musical career with the well-received 2016 LP, Is Anything Real. Often praised for their soaring vocal melodies and incorporation of orchestral instrumentation, the band crafted its debut Is Anything Real to be a lush collection, displaying their expertise with dynamic, diverse, and thoughtful song arrangements. The album was almost fully written when the band entered the studio, contrasting the approach taken on the new single. Stewart explains, “This time around we had the main structure of the song written, but a lot of the harmonies, lead guitar, and wurlitzer parts were worked out in the studio.”
Rosu Lup represents the more folky and ethereal side of the Philly music scene, working with hometown legends whose music they grew up with, such as Jonathan Low (The National/Sufjan Stevens), Brian McTear (The War on Drugs/Sharon Van Etten), and Lou Rogai (Lewis & Clarke) helped produce Is Anything Real, and drummer Chris Powell (Man Man) played drums for “Threads”. They’ve also hit the road with beloved artists The Districts and Eric Slick of Dr. Dog. Stewart recalls their time with The Districts enthusiastically, “The shows we played with them were some of the biggest crowds we’ve performed for. I remember looking out in the crowd and seeing people singing our songs. People were really attentive, the energy was amazing.”
