In This Moment – Show Review And Photos! Columbus, Ohio 2/2/18

It was The Witching Hour in Columbus, OH last week when In This Moment brought their worldwide tour to a packed house at Express LIVE! Presented by 99.7 The Blitz and supported by opening bands Ded, New Years Day, and P.O.D., the show was electric and energetic from start to finish.

The In This Moment stage setup was understated compared to previous tours. A simple white tent type structure stood in the middle of the stage on which a projector displayed graphic, disjointed, intriguing images during the show. Images of the band or creatures of the night of a mysterious forest that I would not want to be lost in flashed onto the surface of the structure. The projections added a dark and haunting yet almost subliminal element to the show.

As the show began, the queen herself, Maria Brink, emerged from the structure wearing an elaborate headpiece. She welcomed her blood legion with one of the band’s biggest hits “Blood.” The crowd went wild!

About half of the setlist came from In This Moment’s latest release Ritual – including their current mega hit and crowd favorite “Roots.” The band also played their Phil Collins cover of “In The Air Tonight” and a beautiful stripped down version of “Lay Your Gun Down” during which Brink entranced the crowd with a magnificent piano piece.

Fan favorites were not forgotten including “Adrenalize”, “Sick Like Me”, and of course “Big Bad Wolf” which stirred crowd surfers and howling at the moon. An encore performance of “Whore” with red and white balloons falling from the ceiling ended the show in a most formidable fashion. It was definitely a night to remember.

Brink commanded the stage on her own the entire night supported by her talented band which she took time to introduce and show great appreciation for. Unlike previous shows I had seen from In This Moment, there were no other dancers, no elaborate stage props, and no massive amounts of smoke and mirrors. It was just Brink’s pure, strong, and stunning voice singing some of the most passion-infused songs in the world of rock. It was perfect.

There are just a few dates left in the USA for this tour before it heads to Canada and Europe. Catch a show if you can!
