Brix was born Sophie Dupin in Tarrytown, NY to her French father Serge, an artist and renowned wood craftsman, and American mother Leslie, a teacher. She grew up in a creative home heavily influenced by art and French music, and spent countless hours during her childhood writing poetry. In her teenage years, this quickly translated into a passion for songwriting and performing.
After her family relocated to northern Michigan, Brix attended Concord Academy of Performing Arts, to which she credits for inspiring her to truly pursue an artistic life. Brix eventually moved to New York City and began performing on the Lower East Side’s coffee houses and bars, where she honed in on her writing skills. In 2015, the artist name Brix was born and is apropos with her angelic approach to vocals and ethereal style of music, which she crafted together with longtime co-writer and producer, Jay Levine.
Over the course of her music career, Brix has written for various artists, successfully placed songs in numerous commercials and films and completed music and lyrics for a musical theater production calledBrix’s vocals and songwriting are also featured on Hollywood Records artist Cole Plante’s song , which topped the Billboard Dance Charts. In addition, Brix sang with the band Passion Pit on Saturday Night Live and most recently, her cover of No Doubt’s “Just A Girl” was featured in Disney’s television promos for “The Nutcracker and The Four Realms”, set for a November 2018 release.
The recent loss of her father to cancer resulted in a period of writing and reflection, and propelled Brix into releasing her own music for the very first time. “Although I had records worth of my own songs, it never felt like the right time to record and release an album of my own,” Brix explains. “Sometimes I wasn’t sure if it was fear or just timing that was holding me back, but my cover of ‘Just A Girl’ was the first time, as an artist, I felt an identity and home with the sound we had created. I wanted my EP to embody that same discovery.”
