New York Natives Bayside made a stop in Newport, KY at the Southgate House Revival to perform an all acoustic show. The band recently released a new album titled “Acoustic Volume 2” which has seen some great success on the Billboard charts.
The Southgate House Revival is a really cool place to see a show. The venue is an extremely old cathedral that has been converted over to one of the best venues in Northern Kentucky/Cincinnati, OH area. When I showed up the opener had just wrapped up her set. I could not believe how many people had packed into the venue. I’ve been to many shows at the Southgate House Revival but I cannot recall one as packed as this show. The anticipation was in the air and the crowd was ready for Bayside to take the stage.
When the members of Bayside took the stage the crowd went crazy with applause and cheering! Lead singer/guitarist Anthony Raneri, lead guitarist Jack O’Shea, bassist Nick Ghanbarian, and drummer Chris Guglielmo all had big smiles as and waved to the crowd as they took their respective spots on stage. Bayside opened up their set with the song Moceanu and the crowd immediately starting singing along. The band then dove into a few tracks off their latest album “Acoustic Volume 2”, playing “Devotion and Desire”. “Devotion and Desire” truly struck a chord with me and the fans around me, everyone seemed to be really zoned in on every last word Anthony was singing. Bayside continued playing a huge 19 song set.
Throughout the night the band paused to check in on the crowd and tell a few jokes. The sound quality was amazing, you could hear each of the respective instruments as well as the vocals crystal clear no matter where you stood in the crowd. With such a large crowd it was amazing how intimate this show felt. The mood of the old cathedral, the lights, and the sound of the acoustic guitars gave off a feeling of being in a small bar with an amazing act.
Bayside wrapped up the night by playing an Oasis cover of “Don’t Look Back In Anger” and the song “Landing Feet First”. I absolutely loved the Oasis cover, the band did an incredible job all night long.
Bayside will be on the road into February 2019. If you get a chance to check out this acoustic tour it is definitely worth a trip to see them!
