The 1975
By Alex Jones
As Bunbury 2019 came to a close, there was only one band left to see. Coming all the way from Manchester England, the pop rock group brought the energy with them from overseas. It was arguable the most crowded performance of the weekend too. Fans gathered at the main stage over an hour and a half before the band was set to take the stage.
The band did everything but disappoint. The performance was full was gusto, flashiness, great instrumentals, and great vocals. The 1975 proved why they were the headliner for Bunbury 2019 by being able to grab and maintain a crowd’s attention from the first note to the last. They kicked things off with hit song “Give Yourself A Try” off their latest album “A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships.”
The performance itself was full of life and color. Back up dancers paired well with the nerdy yet fluid dancing from lead singer Matty Healy. Lead guitarist Adam Hann absolutely killed it, nailing every note and leaving fan’s ears ringing. Bassist Ross MacDonald and drummer George Daniel kept an upbeat pace for the crowd to feel and build off of. The occasional saxophone was a great touch to the performance as well.
My favorite song from the set was their song “Love Me.” It’s an infectious song about love, but it’s not your typical slow love song at all. Every song in their 16 song set list made you want to move and dance. Other notable songs from the performance include “TOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME”, “It’s Not Living (If It’s Not With You)”, “Love It If We Made It”, and their powerful energetic closer “The Sound.”
Bunbury 2019 ended with The 1975 performing one of the longest solos of the entire weekend, seemingly blowing out the speakers in the venue as bright letters popped up on the screens surrounding the stage ironically reading “Rock and Roll is dead. The lights went dark, and as quickly and as loudly as the weekend, day 3, and the performance had started… it ended.
The 1975 are on a world tour until the end of September. They were one of the most fun performances from the weekend, and definitely worth the hype and a listen. Check them out.
