Assembling in the late ’90s, in the town of Kilmarnock, near Glasgow, Scotland, Biffy Clyro featured a three-piece lineup, fronted by vocalist and guitarist Simon Neil along with James Johnston (bass) and drummer Ben Johnston. Playing loud combinations of pop/rock, inspired by the music of bands like Weezer, Biffy Clyro first started by playing their aggressive pop tunes in the nearby Glasgow club scene. After releasing their first EP, Thekidswhopoptodaywillrocktomorrow, via the Electric Honey record label, the band managed to secure some airplay on Scotland’s BBC, which opened the way to even more exposure on the Scottish music scene. In the following months, the group played numerous live shows, including one opening slot for their longtime idols Weezer. In February 2002, the crew offered yet another single, simply titled “57,” before the release of their long-awaited debut full-length, Blackened Sky, issued in March of that same year.A year later, the more elaborate The Vertigo of Bliss appeared. Constant touring to support the album kept the band busy until mid-2004 when they recorded Infinity Land, which was released late in the year. Three years later the successful single “Saturday Superhouse” announced the coming of their fourth album, Puzzle. In 2009, Biffy Clyro released their fifth studio album, Only Revolutions. In 2012, Biffy Clyro released an online video trailer announcing their forthcoming sixth studio album, Opposites. The album became the band’s first ever to hit number on the U.K. album charts. The band also spent much of the year headlining their second world tour. Biffy Clyro returned in 2016 with the full-length album Ellipsis. Recorded in Los Angeles with producer Rich Costey (Franz Ferdinand, Muse), the album featured the singles “Wolves of Winter” and “Animal Style.”

WHERE:  The Basement – Columbus, Ohio
DOORS: 7:00pm
COST: $10.00 Advance/$12.00 Day of Show
ON-SALE: August 10
BIO:
Barb Wire Dolls are one of the most vital new bands in music today, representing all that is inspiring and furious about rock and roll. Hailing from an artist commune on the island of Crete, the band sold everything they owned and left crisis-ridden Greece in 2010 for Los Angeles, at the invite of legendary KROQ DJ Rodney Bingenheimer. Upon their arrival in California, Barb Wire Dolls immediately sold out the world famous Roxy Theatre in Hollywood, boasting a live show that is second to none.  The band has gone on to melt ears & hearts on 700 stages across 22 countries in just under five years  – consistently selling out club dates in America, the UK and Europe. Fronted by the whip-smart vocal and fashion icon Isis Queen (named after the Greek Goddess herself), Barb Wire Dolls intelligently weave sub-genres of punk, grunge, and metal, producing an urgent sound that is truly unique. The group’s dynamic musicianship is blasted forth by former pro surfer & skateboarder Pyn Doll on lead guitar, Krash Doll on drums, Iriel Blaque on bass, and Remmington on rhythm guitar.

In 2012, the band encamped themselves in Nirvana noise-guru Steve Albini’s recording studio to produce their debut, Slit, over the span of just two days. Garnering critical acclaim and comparisons to the likes of Nirvana, Blondie, and the Ramones. Few female-fronted punk bands in history have made a more immediate and tangible impact on their contemporary musical landscape. Apart from touring on their own name and playing main stages at major festivals around the world including Riot Fest (USA), Rebellion (UK), Mighty Sounds (CZ), Brincadeira (SP), Foud’ Rock (FR), and Bochum Total (GER), Barb Wire Dolls have also co-headlined dates with the likes of GBH, Fear, Mike Watt, Sham 69, Discharge, Cockney Rejects, The Ataris, Murder Junkies, CJ Ramone, 999, Status Quo, Mushroomhead, and Candlebox, as well as playing direct tour support for Jello Biafra, NOFX, Descendents, Bouncing Souls, and Steel Panther.

WHERE:  The Basement – Columbus, Ohio
DOORS: 8:00pm
COST:  $19.50 Advance/$22.00 Day of Show
ON-SALE: August 11
BIO:
Known for her emotional songwriting and concerts where “crying is acceptable and even encouraged,” Mary Lambert climbed into the Top Ten of the Billboard 200 when she joined hip-hop duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis on the hit single “Same Love” from their 2012 album The Heist. Born and raised in Seattle, Lambert graduated from the Cornish College of the Arts with a Bachelor of Music degree in music composition, but even with one symphony piece for the Seattle Philharmonic Orchestra on the books, she decided her future was in pop music and spoken word. Success with the latter came in 2011 when she was declared that year’s Seattle Poetry Slam winner, while 2012 saw her launch her music career with the EP Letters Don’t Talk.

As fans of her confessional work, Macklemore & Lewis contacted Lambert for their gay marriage anthem “Same Love,” a track from their platinum album The Heist. “Same Love” was released as a single in 2012, and Lambert would join Macklemore & Lewis on tour through 2013. In 2013 she also published 500 Tips for Fat Girls, her first book of poetry, and by the end of the year she had issued her second EP, Welcome to the Age of My Body. Her profile got a further boost when she received two Grammy nominations, and at the January 2014 award ceremony she performed on-stage alongside Macklemore & Lewis and Madonna, while Queen Latifah read the marriage vows for 33 couples. Her debut album, Heart on My Sleeve, was released later that year by Capitol Records. After the release of a pair of standalone singles in 2016, Lambert issued the Bold EP in 2017.
