“The Last Days Of Oakland is among the rawest pieces of music—sonically and emotionally—you’ll hear all year. But it’s also the work of a craftsman, full of subtlety and sophistication, along with the kind of scars that only a survivor can flaunt.” —NPR Music
“Many of the songs on his Grammy-making The Last Days of Oakland were germinated in the safe space of the streets and, through Depression-era Delta blues and roots music, speak to the ethos of the working class.” – Chicago Sun-Times
“[a] whimsical vocal acrobat”–The New York Times
Oakland came together to “Push Back” against hate with the resist-mix, which brings together blues and Hip Hop as the sound of resistance. Featuring Bay Area artists Fantastic Negrito, Mistah F.A.B. and Zion I, “Push Back (Oakland Resist-Mix)” was premiered last night by Ebro on Beats1 and blends the different styles of the Northern California city into a groove-laden track the hums to the beat of the city.
“It was a great honor to work with Mistah F.A.B. and Zion I on the remix of ‘Push Back’,” says Fantastic Negrito. “I also want to give a huge shout out to Ebro at Beats1 for putting this collaboration out to the world. Now is the time for artists to lead the way — and time for all of us to figure out what we can contribute to the greater cause.” The track is available now at all online retailers.

The video for “Push Back” which originally premiered on Tidal last week exudes the universal embrace of Fantastic Negrito’s music, which Afropunk.com observes, “Fantastic Negrito leads the resistance in the expressive video for the passionately frustrated, ridiculously infectious ‘Push Back’.”
Fantastic Negrito is currently supporting Sturgill Simpson on his Fall U.S. tour, performing at Chicago’s Huntington Bank Pavilion this evening.

Fantastic Negrito’s The Last Days of Oakland took home the 2017 Grammy for Best Contemporary Blues Album Grammy Award. While blues is an integral part of Fantastic Negrito’s overall foundation, his music defies genre, blending hip hop, rock, and other styles to create a sound that led Pitchfork’s Greil Marcus to say “he could be inventing the blues for the first time.”
He made his national television debut as Fantastic Negrito on the season finale of Fox’s Empire, performing both his single “Lost in a Crowd”—the track that brought him to national attention, winning NPR’s inaugural Tiny Desk Concert Contest—and the hit song “Good Enough” alongside “Empire’s” Jamal Lyon.
