The Ongoing Concept have released the video for “You Will Go.” Watch it here.
The song lives on the new album Places, out October 6 on Solid State Records.
For over seven years, The Ongoing Concept has tried to make something more than just music. Their unconventional approach to creating has lead to heavy music with trombones, harmonicas, and sort of punk melodicism too unique to describe. “I want our music to be a progression, something outside the box of just a song with lyrics. I want it to be a portrayal of not only my life, but the lives of others,” Dawson Scholz explains. “I want everyone to view The Ongoing Concept in their own terms; literally or metaphorically.”
The band arrived on the national radar via their 2013 debut album Saloon, and introduced themselves as a band with unorthodox tactics and unparalleled inventiveness. Their sophomore record, Handmade, is a great example of that ingenuity, as they—literally by hand—made their own instruments to record the album with.
And now, Places. “The album is about growing up and dealing with the past mistakes we all have made,” explains Scholz, referencing his collaboration with fellow band mates Andy Crateau, Ian Nelson, and Cody Rhodes. “With their combined effort, Instrumentally and lyrically, we all were able to portray a very accurate collection of stories that have shaped and made us who we are today.”
“This life is precious,” notes the Idaho native. “You have to make the most of it. The places you have been make you who you are. The places you will go make you who you will become. Every song on this record is an interpretation of all the experiences I have faced in the 25 years of my life.”
