I had the opportunity to catch GOJIRA perform for a packed house at Newport Music Hall in Columbus, OH and it was amazing! If you do not know Gojira and you are a hard rock/metal fan, then you need to check them out ASAP. These French rockers are so damn good live!! I’ve been a fan of Gojira for a while but have only seen them in a festival environment so it was exciting to get to see them in a smaller venue.
Gojira, which is the original pronunciation of Godzilla in Japanese, truly has a GIANT sound. As the band took the stage and burst into their set, green lights and fog were emanating from the stage. Gojira’s frontman, Joe Duplantier, kicked things off with the song “Only Pain”. Two songs later came one of my favorites, “Silvera”. To hear “Silvera” from the photo pit was a goosebump moment for me. They sounded SO GOOD!! The crowd definitely agreed with me as they were going insane for Gojira’s music! Gojira continued to keep everyone rocking through their set with songs such as, “Stranded”, “The Cell” (video below), “The Shooting Star”, and ending the night with “Vacuity”. Gojira definitely brings their all when it comes to the live show. If you’ve not seen them or heard of Gojira… get out there and listen!
