This was the first time I’ve seen JD and the Straight Shot. Honestly, I’d never heard of them. Thanks to Google I quickly learned that the frontman, James Dolan, also happens to be the CEO of Cablevision Systems Corporation, the Executive Chairman at Madison Square Garden and Owner of the New York Knicks. I wasn’t sure what I was walking into and maybe expecting to not be impressed! So on a hot, balmy night in Huber Heights, Ohio at the Rose Music Center, JD and the Straight Shot took the stage and I found myself pleasantly surprised! Sometimes it is good to be wrong. To go from dreading something to thoroughly enjoying it. This concert? Case in point. Lesson learned. Dolan’s deep, gravely voice was amazing. The man can sing. He was also funny, entertaining the crowd by weaving stories from his life into the performance. The music was a little bit of country blues with a little bit of rock. The violin added a Celtic flair. They were good. Really good. And we had fun. Check them out if you get the chance. I dare you to be disappointed.
