Dayton’s most loved hole-in-the-wall music venue, Oddbody’s, was packed for Pop Evil on November 17th. No strangers to the Dayton music scene, the group has developed quite the following locally and the enthusiastic crowd came ready to rock during the sold-out performance.
Kicking off the set with the hard hitting energy of “Deal With the Devil,” Leigh Kakaty led the band to a full set including fan favorites “Trenches” and “Boss’s Daughter,” while debuting a new hit on this tour, “Waking Lions” off their album to be released in February 2018.
Known for their numerous hit songs and wide range of sounds, the set list covered something for every fan in attendance that evening, even playing a few lines of “Eye of the Tiger.” Kakaty asked the crowd if anyone remembered their first performance at Oddbody’s, then known as McGuffey’s, and then joked that it was impossible for there were only three people in attendance that night eliciting laughs from the crowd. He then threw the set back to their first album with “100 In A 55.” Speaking of throwing things back, this nostalgia led to several audience members waving actual lighters during the song, not just waving their phones in the air.
The ever-popular “Footsteps” rounded out the set, but the band was brought back to the stage after the rabid fans screamed for more. Kakaty and the band complied with the demands with a passionate “Take It All” to round out a perfect rock evening.
