While the term “legend” is often bestowed quite liberally these days, few would argue that producer / artist JOHN FRYER carries that title quite appropriately.  With a musical fingerprint that shaped the sounds of labels 4AD, Mute, Rough Trade and Beggars Banquet and bands as seminal as Cocteau Twins, Nine Inch Nails, PRAYERS, Mary and The RamHIM, Yaz, and Depeche Mode, Fryer has been the sonic architect for four decades of alternative music. Currently masterminding the new artist collective BLACK NEEDLE NOISE (like the iconic supergroup of sorts, This Mortal Coil, which he was co-founder), Fryer is creating a whole new direction for alternative music to forge ahead.  His latest single and video “La diosa y el hombre” premiered via alternative music tome Substream Magazine and can be found here: https://substreammagazine.com/2018/03/black-needle-noise-premiere/

Featuring Mexican vocalist Azzul Monra who sings the song in her native Spanish, “La diosa y el hombre” is a hypnotic and ethereal song that Substream calls, “a passion project so beautifully crafted that one cannot help succumbing to its effortless charm. No genre description fits, but suffice to say it is music made to move you.”

One of a series of songs that Black Needle Noise is releasing consistently and regularly via Bandcamp, “La diosa v el hombre” joins other tracks previously released that features a diverse who’s who of alternative vocalists such as Mimi Page (Delirium), Jennie Vee (bassist, Hole), Ana Breton (Dead Leaf Echo), Omniflux (Puscifer), Kendra Frost(Kite Base), Andrea Kerr (Colt), Sivert Hoyem, ZiaLand among others. “I like to keep people guessing as to what will be released next, not only with sound but now with what language the song will be in,” explains Fryer about his revolving door of vocalists. “I love where Azzul Monraz has taken this song; it’s always surprising when I get the vocals back to hear where the music has taken them.”

Black Needle Noise is also gearing up for the release of the three-track 7” vinyl single “I Am You” on May 20, 2018. Featuring vocals by Dr. Strangefryer on the industrial-leaning title track “I Am You,” the single also features Bill Leeb (Front Line Assembly, Delirium) on “A Shiver of Want” and Tara Bosch on “Under My Skin.”  It is available for pre order via No Devotion Records https://nodevotionrecords.bandcamp.com/album/i-am-you.

John Fryer started his career in 1979 at London’s Blackwing Studios (London) and soon began working with seminal bands on the 4AD, Mute, Rough Trade and Beggars Banquet record labels, including Depeche Mode, The Wolfgang Press and Cocteau Twins. His achievement in helping develop the latter’s pioneering ethereal and ambient sound ultimately led Watts-Russell to recruit Fryer as his partner for This Mortal Coil.

He’s produced many other groundbreaking artists, including PRAYERS, Love and Rockets, Swans, HIM, Cradle of Filth, Clan of Xymox, Nitzer Ebb, Dead Can Dance, Yaz (Yazoo), Xmal Deutschland, Fields of the Nephilim, De/Vision, Stabbing Westward, Kristin Hersh and many others. Over the past two decades, John Fryer has also produced several film soundtracks, including Se7en, Clerks, Johnny Mnemonic, Mortal Kombat, Faust and Resident Evil: Apocalypse.
