My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult 30th Anniversary Show – Our Coverage Of The Newport, KY Show!

On April 12th, industrial/dance/synth music pioneers My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult (TKK) brought their 30th Anniversary Tour to The Southgate House Revival in Newport, KY.  I’ve covered many shows over the years at The Southgate House Revival but this show was special because the venue is a converted cathedral and the old-world architecture meshed perfectly with the band! I had the opportunity to meet up with TKK  prior to the show and shoot some band photos capitalizing on the stain glassed windows and Gothic styling of this one-of-a-kind venue!  I’ve been a fan of them since the 90’s and it was mind-blowing to meet these legends and work with them face-to-face!

My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult consists of Groovie Mann (vocals, pictured above) and Buzz McCoy (keyboard/vocals) who are the founding members of the band. Touring with TKK also is Mimi Star (bass guitar), Arena Rock (vocals), and Justin Thyme (drummer).

When the lights dimmed and My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult took the stage in the old cathedral, the crowd responded with screams and clapping; everyone was really excited to see this show! The band kicked the show off with “Heresy” and then rolled into  “X-Communication”. The lighting and sound were on point, a variety of greens, reds, and strobes set off the eerie backdrop on the set.  Groovie, the lead singer, is the ultimate front-man leading each song with such enthusiasm, and energy!  You would never know this band was celebrating 30 years as they were so far ahead of their time musically; it all sounded so relevant to today’s sound.

As the night continued with an amazing set of music, TKK played some of my favorites and I’m sure crowd favorites as well!  The first song that really took me back to the early TKK days was, “A Daisy Chain 4 Satan” and it was SO GOOD live! TKK also played “Kooler Than Jesus” and ended the night with “‘Cuz It’s Hot” which was killer!

Overall My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult  put on an amazing show that took me back to the 90’s while staying relevant and engaged with a 2018 crowd! Be sure to check them out live if you get the chance.
