| “Sleep Touching” carries Kid Cadaver further on the path they embarked on four years ago when their two previous EPs propelled the band into collective pop consciousness with their finely-crafted emotionally-charged electronic music garnered West Coast radio spins and a well-received tour. Showered with praise from the media such as Substream (“peddles in the type of indie rock that’s not afraid to incorporate electronics and have a good time while still being true to themselves lyrically”), Ground Sounds (“hook-driven songs filled with infectious melodies and vocal choruses”) and The Weekly Alibi (“more than a throwback to ’80s dance music. Kid Cadaver demonstrates the unconfined nature of today’s pop music”), among others, the sudden influx of attention thrust the band into the spotlight. But as the pressure mounted, so did extreme self-doubt, forcing singer/songwriter Ray Venta to abandon the project to scrub his palette fresh. “I wasn’t sure we would ever release more music as Kid Cadaver until I wrote ‘Sleep Touching’,” he tells BuzzBandsLA. Fortunately finding a detour around his writer’s block, Venta began writing again, with enough material for an EP to be released in the near future.
For the time being, however, the band is putting all their energy into this single. “This feels like a much more honest version of Kid Cadaver, which is something I can see myself exploring for a long time,” says Ray. With some West Coast shows planned (they played LA’s Hi Hat this past Saturday, July 28th to fans who welcomed them back with arms wide open), Kid Cadaver will be rolling out new music shortly.
