FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 30, 2018

Award Winning New York City based musician, filmmaker, multimedia artist, and music producer Joey Danger has announced the release of his new 5 song EP titled Lust & Vulgarity today. In addition, Joey also debuted his award winning music video/sci-fi fashion film for his single “Surrender” off of the EP.

“This EP is kind of a concept album. I based it on where found myself shortly after I moved to New York. I was in a numb place emotionally and felt like I suddenly had access to everything I always wanted which led me down a rabbit hole of constant self indugence” says Joey Danger.

He adds, “After my last EP (Alive 2010) I wasn’t interested in doing more of the same creatively. I went through a lot in my personal life and didn’t feel like that person anymore. Rather than rush new music out, I took time to refine myself as an artist and make something that I felt reflects who I am now.”

“Surrender” is an award winning music video / sci-fi fashion film shot and directed by Joey Danger. The video, which took nearly two years to make, dives into the dark retro-futuristic world of cyberpunk, taking you on a journey with robots, cyborgs, and flying vehicles. It was independently written and directed by Joey Danger as both a music video for Joey’s upcoming single and it was also created as part of a fashion story for IRK Magazine’s ‘Futurism’ issue, with editorial stills by photographer and film producer, Morgan Miller. It stars models Anna Miller and Kasia Krol. The film was shot entirely on a green screen in NYC at Morgan Miller Studios and was styled by Cannon Media Group.

Joey continues to say, “Filming Surrender was a blast. Getting the chance to work with so many talented people on a passion project like this was a dream come true. This video is a love letter to the cyberpunk films that inspired me growing up and made me want to become a filmmaker. It gave me a chance to express myself artistically on every level and tell a story in a world I’ve always wanted to create. I really want to revisit that world again in the future. There are so many stories I want to tell and I feel like I’ve only scratched the surface.”

“We shot the entire thing on green screen which was both a blessing and curse. It allowed me to get really creative with world building and aesthetics but it also took over a year to complete the visual effects. I put those poor girls through hell filming the bike chase. The hover bikes you see them on in the film are entirely CGI. The actors were actually riding a flimsy makeshift rig Morgan and I threw together last minute using light stands and a leather couch pillow taped to an antique bar stool so that we could spin them around. If they look like they are holding on for dear life, its because they are. It shows just how talented and professional they are though. The rig was very unstable with no place for them to put their feet. They not only had to suspend their bodies as if they were on a motorcycle, they also had to keep themselves balanced just right otherwise they were going to fall. That may or may not have happened a couple of times.”

Despite the film having no budget, or visual effects team, director Joey Danger felt compelled to create something special, so he headed to the remote mountains of North Carolina, where he could afford to focus all of his time editing, animating, and compositing all of the visual effects shots required to achieve his vision. After nearly 13 months and 100 visual effects shots, a cut of the film was finally completed. The film’s song “Surrender” was written, performed, and produced by him as well. The passion behind this film comes from the director’s deep and long time love of the cyberpunk genre.
