THRICE in Cincinnati, Ohio!

At least half of Cincinnati was in the mood for the intense yet haunting melodic songs of the post-hardcore band, Thrice, during their headlining show on November 10th. The other half of Cincinnati unfortunately also was drawn to Short Vine that evening due to a University of Cincinnati football game, making parking for both events scarier than anything The Haunt at Kings Island could have delivered.
Despite the hassle, the atmosphere inside the venue was electrifying as the almost-capacity crowd enjoyed openers The Bronx and Teenage Wrist. Both bands were met enthusiastically by the audience; their punk/alt sounds resonated well with the evening’s lineup.
Thrice kicked off their set with “Only Us,” the lead track off their new album, Palms. This was followed quickly with nostalgic screams from the crowd as they played “Image of the Invisible” off Vheissu. The mix of old and new continued throughout the set as they delivered a diverse range of songs from ballads to energetic punk numbers proving to casual fans that this band is more than the epic hit, “Black Honey.” Lead singer Dustin Kensrue kept the narrative to a minimum through the night only urging “Let’s take care of each other,” thanking the opening bands, and offering up the tour’s exclusive vinyl.
They ended their standard set with the lyrically beautiful “Beyond the Pines,” also off their new Palms album. Chants began almost immediately after their departure, urging the band to finish with fan-favorite, “Deadbolt.” They soon regained the stage and obliged the masses. The encore rounded to a close with one of their earliest hits, “To Awake and Avenge the Dead,” off their The Illusion of Safety album.
Thrice ends the U.S. portion of their tour November 18th and continues with dates exclusively in Australia through February 2019. You can purchase their new album, Palms, on their official site.
