Walk The Moon & Bear Hands at the Mercury Ballroom in Louisville, KY – 1/24/19

Cincinnati, OH synth-pop/rock band Walk The Moon recently played two nights in a row at the Mercury Ballroom in Louisville, KY, with special guests Bear Hands.
The band was founded by singer Nicholas Petricca in 2006, Walk The Moon has amassed a loyal fan base over the years and have made a tradition of performing in face paint. I was present at the second of the two shows and it was clear from the start that the sold-out crowd was ready to party! Donning face paint of their own and exhibiting an infectious exuberance for the evening ahead, it was hard to not feed off of the upbeat energy that was coursing through the room. Walking out on stage to a roar of cheers and applause, singer Nicholas Petricca told the crowd how happy the band was to be in Louisville and that they have so much history with the city with 91.9 WFPK being one of the first radio stations to play their music. He said that the city was special to them and thanked the crowd for coming out, many for the second night in a row.
Starting things off with “Lisa Baby”, Walk The Moon continued to play a nice variety of songs that included “Different Colors”, “One Foot”, “Timebomb”, “Tiger Teeth”, “Feels Good To Be High” and their smash hit “Shut Up and Dance”. The band then told the crowd of being on tour in 2016 playing 25 countries in 2 months and being asked to cover “Ghostbusters” for the movie’s soundtrack, flying back to the US from tour in order to record the song before heading back out. The band then the launched into the cover and had the entire venue shouting “Ghostbusters”!
Walk The Moon finished their set with “Kamikaze”, “Tightrope” and “Headphones” before briefly exiting the stage. Coming back out for an encore, the band thanked the crowd once again for coming out before finishing their set with two more songs. Starting their encore with “Portugal”, they ended things with their first big hit, “Anna Sun”, which saw the entire venue go wild. With the entire crowd singing along and dancing, the band and crowd were feeding off of each other’s energy in a show-stopping finale to the evening. After the song was over, Petricca got down into the photo pit to hand fans the set lists and interact with them a bit before stepping back onto and then off of the stage. Walk The Moon are a fun and energetic band and gave their fans an evening they won’t soon forget! Brooklyn-based post-punk/indie rock band Bear Hands opened the show.
