GRIDFAILURE: Heathen Harvest Premieres “Post-Attack Habitat” Video; Sixth Mass-Extinction Skulduggery I Out Now Through Nefarious Industries

A video for New York-based GRIDFAILURE‘s “Post-Attack Habitat” has been issued through an exclusive premiere at Heathen Harvest. Created for the outfit’s recently-released Sixth Mass-Extinction Skulduggery I full-length, out now through Nefarious Industries, the video presents a brief glimpse into the concept behind the album, the first in a five-album series from the ominous outfit.
Sixth Mass-Extinction Skulduggery I delivers over fifty-two minutes of GRIDFAILURE‘s cavernous, effects-drenched terror, merging elements of harsh industrial, world music, pensive drone, dark hardcore, and cinematic horror. Elements of the record were written in times of blackout during Superstorm Sandy, and other elements were recorded outdoors in extreme weather events. Conceived, written, executed, recorded, mixed, and completed with art by GRIDFAILURE‘s David Brenner, Sixth Mass-Extinction Skulduggery I also features contributions from Joy Von Spain (Eye Of Nix, To End It All), Pete Tsakiris, Greg Meisenberg (A Fucking Elephant, Maid Myriad), Benjamin Levitt (Megalophobe, Gridfailure live), BJ Allen (Full Scale Riot), and Christopher Henry (Humans Etcetera, Fuck Your Birthday). The album was mastered by Dan Emery at Black Matter Mastering (Kool Keith, Krieg, Thetan).
Debuting the “Post-Attack Habitat” video, Heathen Harvest writes in part, “Brenner is increasingly working in the realm of high tension, and this new video is another step in that increasingly blossoming direction. Something about ‘Post-Attack Habitat’ has a nineties-throwback feel to it, probably nestled somewhere between the fish-eye lens and the high-tempo overstimulation of apocalyptic visions…”

GRIDFAILURE‘s Sixth Mass-Extinction Skulduggery concept series depicts a grim, rapidly-approaching reality, the series’ five titles culminating tales of nature’s decimating wrath in response to humanity’s provocation, and the effects on our civilization. The series will include Sixth Mass-Extinction Skulduggery III, and III, and will culminate with the two massive albums Teeth Collectionand Drought Stick, which document random stories from the final days of the human species.
As resources are depleted, so are morals, and as monolithic storms ravage the planet, neighbors turn on one another, and once war and uprising decimate the population, survivors are left to slaughter for survival in a diseased and polluted wasteland aftermath. Sources of uncontaminated energy, food, and water are scarce on the grim sphere, and the species’ reliance on technology has left most humans helpless to do anything but wait to be pillaged and consumed by marauding outlander factions or simply perish in the unforgiving climate. Themes of cannibalism, disease, delirium, revenge, scourge, warfare, and general underhandedness are written from haphazard points of view within the withering human race in the multi-release series, which infuse heavy elements of tribal/and percussion with post-industrial and mechanical beats resembling a biomechanical hybrid, deploying a communal aura of woe and rage.
