Run The Jewels – Bunbury Music Festival 2019 Day 3

Run the Jewels

By Alex Jones

One of the heavy hitting headliners on day 3 was none other than the rap duo Run the Jewels, made up of members Killer Mike and El-P. The duo is an alternative/experimental hip hop group that has gained popularity over the last 5 years. The two members were actually brought together by Cartoon Network executive Jason Demarco.

It’s kind of fitting the two were introduced by someone from Cartoon Network, because the duo was hilarious on stage. To be honest, their performance felt more like a skit than anything. The two had such great stage chemistry they would go from performing a song or two to cracking jokes with the crowd.

Killer Mike seemed to be the fan favorite, mainly because he gave Pete Rose a shout out multiple times. The crowd and Killer Mike really fed off of each other. El-P brought the wit and Killer Mike brought the bars.

Run the Jewels opened their performance by singing Queen’s “We Are the Champions” with the crowd, which got things off to a hot start. After that, the duo moved into a 12 song set list of some of their most popular songs. This includes songs such as “Legend Has It”, “Blockbuster Night, Pt. 1”, “Call Tickerton” and the crowd favorite “Close Your Eyes (And Count to Fuck)”. My personal favorite song from the set was “Nobody Speak.”

Killer Mike and El-P had the crowd either jumping and down or laughing the entire performance. They even created some hype by mentioning it was their first performance in months, because their new album “Run the Jewels 4” is on the way. It was an overall great performance and duo proved why they’re so popular and why they’re one of the headliners from the weekend.

Run the Jewels has a performance in New York in August. It is unknown when their new album will come out.
