Bunbury is one of the best places to find different. Different was definitely found on Day 3 of the Bunbury Music Festival. Under the punishing afternoon sun Reignwolf took to the Sawyer Point Stage. The band features lead singer Jordan Cook, drummer Joseph Braley and bassist Stacey-James Kardash in what is best described as a harsher version of The Black Keys.
Considered in the Indie/Blues Rock genre, the band performed their gritty songs with an old soul feel. Cook’s vocals echoed over the large lawn and static from the speakers only added to the realistic grunge of the set. If this band is the Blues, then surely it’s what 2019 Blues sounds like.
Cook’s stage presence was eye-catching. Dressed in full, thick all back despite the intense sunlight, he jumped and crawled around the stage while clutching his guitar. During an instrumental, he slid to the stage floor, laid his guitar flat, and played a screeching yet appropriate slide guitar to add additional depth to the song.
You can experience Reignwolf through their recently released Hear Me Out, or out on tour this summer and fall. The band is opening for The Who on limited dates.
