JD & The Straight Shot are set to tour alongside music legend and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Joe Walsh on his solo Walsh Tour that kicked off on July 16th in Cincinnati, OH at the PNC Pavilion. JD & The Straight Shot – vocalist/guitarist Jim Dolan whose voice the New York Post calls “reminiscent of Tom Waits and Randy Newman,” guitarist/vocalist Marc Copely (B.B. King, Rosanne Cash), bassist Byron House (Robert Plant, Emmylou Harris, Dolly Parton) along with touring musicians guitarist JJ Appelton (David Bowie, Darius Rucker), violinist Mary Jo Stillip (Adele, Jay-Z, Beyonce, Sigur Ros), vocalist/guitarist Erin McCarley (Don Henley) – are hitting the road in support of their fifth collection, the all-acoustic album Ballyhoo! released on January 15th
As the crowd filtered in and took their seats I felt as though they were taking a seat for a great story about to unfold. JD and the Straight Shot took the stage and right from the beginning interacted with the crowd and began a series of songs, each with their own unique story. I felt what was most compelling was that the music seemed to be a fusion of folk, rock, and blues. I loved that JD was a good story teller. When the song “Glide” came on JD introduced the song with a great story talking about the pure joy his son felt when he was running to the school carnival and had been talking about it all week. JD said when his left car to run into the fair he gave his dad a glance back over his shoulder and that had been the motivation for the song Glide. While the majority of the crowd was there to see Joe Walsh, JD and the Straight Shot definitely captivated the audience. I think in a lot of ways it was a bonus and a treat for those arriving early to catch such a great band.
If you have the opportunity to check out JD & The Straight Shot I would highly recommend it!
