Vexes is a metal band from the ashes of Vessl and A Life Once Lost. They are set to release their debut album Ancient Geometry on February 23, 2018. The band is comprised of: Charlie Berezansky (vocals, guitar, keyboards), John Klagholz (guitar, keyboards), Bobby Carpenter (bass), and Justin Graves (drums). I was not prepared when I first listened to this album.
My first thought when I pressed play: damn, this is some good shit!!! The first track, Helion, which also happens to be the newest single, starts off by setting the tone. Full fledged groove-based metal that definitely makes a bold statement; there is a new breed of post-hardcore personas ready to take over the scene.
The song Terra is a change of pace by using beautiful melodies and clean sounding layered guitars at the beginning, then going full blast for the chorus. This works well by giving you a roller coaster ride of highs and lows, a contrast of opposite ends blended intricately.
Lush continues the aural assault by presenting the broken heart in musical form. Lyrics of things lost gives you an insight of the pain that love can bring (at least this was my interpretation).
Ancient Geometry shines with its layers of secrets that can only be uncovered on repeat listening. This value gives this album a high replay ability that not many debuts can achieve. None of the songs presented here are for filler. Each song is amazing on its own and I really hope that they eventually tour towards my part of the states. A definite must have.
