Shallow Side set for skyrocketing success with new full-length album Saints & Sinners OUT 3/29/19 – Album Review

Shallow Side is a band that I loved from the first moment I was introduced to their music. Their songs have infectious grooves and rebellious beats that just grab you by the gut and make you want to listen. On March 29, 2019, their first full-length album, Saints & Sinners, will be released to the world giving us 10 new songs to fall in love with.

Since coming into the rock scene with their first EP Home Today in 2012, Shallow Side has released 2 additional EPs and several stand alone singles. Their last EP, One (2017), spurred three singles – “Rebel” (my personal favorite), “Renegade” (cover of the Styx hit), and “Can You Hear Me” (band autobiography perhaps). This EP really started to get Shallow Side noticed and earned them Loudwire’s Best New Artist of 2016. These Alabama rockers have been continuously touring from coast-to-coast impressing fans with their passionate performances, energetic stage presence, and humble personalities. Their music has been streamed over 10 million times, and Saints & Sinners is bound to make those numbers skyrocket.

The very first note of Saints & Sinners is the deep, rich vocals of Eric Boatright accompanied with an almost understated drum, guitar, and bass line on the song “Revival”. You can feel the tension in the song building and building until vocals and instruments crescendo together into the cries of “Revival” and from that point on the song just jams.

The next song is the title track and it has a crazy cool rock groove that feels like two outlaws in a shootout. The lyrics are brilliant and the guitar solo is fierce. I felt tougher after listening to that song.

The third song is the first single from Saints & Sinners and it is a raucous rock and roll song called “SOUND THE ALARM”. It has a headbanging beat and anthemic lyrics that will draw people in and make them hungry for the rest of the album.

Other notable songs on Saints & Sinners include “Temptations”, which is a song with a softer tempo but hard-hitting lyrics about honest introspection, and “All Rise”, which has a super sexy swagger that Shallow Side does better than any other rock band out there right now. “Not Alone” is an absolutely beautiful ballad with heart-wrenching lyrics and a brilliant piano part. It’s just a gorgeous song and I hope it is released as a single so that people all over the world can hear this softer side of Shallow Side.

There really is not a skippable song on the entire album. Saints & Sinners was produced by Michael “Elvis” Baskette (Chevelle, Altered Bridge, Slash), and it is a supremely strong collection showcasing the impressive musicality of these four guys.
