A redrawing of post-hardcore lines have been a mark of Pierce The Veil. As their last album Collide With The Sky was for years ago. Coming in after a four-year wait, this album Misadventures has been unquestionably worth the wait! Their new album, Misadventures, presents itself clearly as the prize that comes to those who have the patience to wait for only the best gift possible.
Calling San Diego home, Pierce The Veil were recently on the North American leg of their tour to support their latest album Misadventures and made a stop at the Nile Theater in Mesa, Arizona. It was a night filled with smiling faces, anticipated grins, killer music, body heat, a packed house, and a long-awaited gift redeemed as only PTV knows how… with all they have.
Misadventures is the quintessential album of 2016 so far. Each and every track is a winner. A feast of electrifying, obsessive, controlled creations and they spun them in heart and soul to a room so packed that you couldn’t fit a crow bar between any raised arms clapping and fist pumping mightily into the dark air of a rock n roll night. Opening with “Dive In” the rich depth of PTV set the tone; vocally, Vic Fuentes was in his finest form. As “Texas Is Forever” began, the curtain call belonged to drummer Mike Fuentes. Mike is the combat groove on Misadventures. Fists pumping in the air and it was time for Jaime Preciado and Tony Perry’s fiercely lit fire guitar work to engulf the stage on “The Divine Zero.” There isn’t anything left on this album and their live performance to question. The beauty of each number just continues its communication of PTV truths.
The most danceable pop-leaning song comes with the tune, “Circles.” The crowd moved, Vic leading them and with the energy to its highest heights, Jaime and Tony once again tore up the stage interacting with the crowd and playing to each person’s heart in the audience. Body’s were sweating in a fervor of rock n roll. “Bedless” slowed the pulses down and the “Song For Isabella” tells a story based on a fan they met along their journeys.
Pierce The Veil ended their 11 songs and the stage went quiet. However, the crowd chanted ‘encore’ and PTV once again presented themselves to the full tilt to their awaiting and willing audience. The first encore song was “Bull in the Box” and the last was “King for a Day.” which was recorded featuring Kellin Quinn of Sleeping With Sirens. Both slices of PTV were off of their album, Collide With The Sky, and the audience was satisfied. Pierce The Veil only delivers the best as they demand only the exceptional from what they produce.
A worthy four-year wait for new material and a definite squeeze of determination that brings absolute meaning to post-hardcore. PTV’s sound is the embodiment of musical subcultural core that encompasses all parts and bits of the perfect all-purpose tool kit of rock. These boys transcend all limitations with charm and command of their sound.
