On Friday, May 4 some of the most amazing and talented female-fronted bands will roll into the PNC Pavilion in Cincinnati, OH for an unforgettable show. Halestorm. In This Moment. Stitched Up Heart. New Years Day. It’s going to be an epic experience for anyone lucky enough to be there.
West coast rockers New Years Day will bring their own brand of pop-punk-goth stadium rock to the tour. Ash Costello and the guys have more than a decade of material including a new EP, Diary of a Creep, which came out in January of this year, to share with fans. Fellow Californians Stitched Up Heart has a huge sound and an engrossing stage show. They are animated and energetic and I’m always amazed at the strength of Mixi’s vocals. In This Moment’s show is always filled with theatrics and emotions. Maria Brink commands the stage and attention of the crowd from the first note to the last. Widely acknowledged as one of the most vital and iconic bands in modern hard rock, Halestorm is currently continuing work on their hugely anticipated fourth studio album. Fingers crossed to hear a couple new songs on this tour along with all the mega hits this band has created over their 20-year career. I just can’t wait to hear what these bands choose for their setlists and to see if there are any surprise collaborations between these fantastic females.

Mixi, lead vocalist and fierce frontwoman of Stitched Up Heart, shared a little inside information about what she says is the “Best.Tour.Ever.”
How did this tour come about?
I believe the first spark started by connecting with other female artists in the industry.
What was your first thought when you were invited to be on the tour or when you realized you would be touring with these other kick ass bands?
The English language didn’t create words that could possibly explain how excited we are for this tour.
Can we expect any surprises on this tour like collaborations or new music or anything like that?
There’s always surprises!
What is a typical “post concert moment” like for you – what do you do to unwind or re-energize? Do you talk about the performance at all?
I like to have fun and mingle! We usually go over things we noticed or could improve on to learn for next time too.
This is going to be a grueling tour over the next couple months – what is one thing you can’t live without on the road?
I’ve read recent discussions about the term “female-fronted” rock band. How do you feel about this descriptor? Do you think it has positive or negative connotations?
I’m indifferent on the subject. I can see both sides of that argument. It doesn’t bother me. But, honestly not much really bothers me.
What myths do you think exist out there about women in rock and how do you think you are debunking those myths?
I think in general rock bands get a bad rep for being crazy and trashing hotel rooms and whatnot but most are pretty professional.
What lesson(s) have you learned from one of the other musicians that you are currently touring with?
Lzzy has taught me a lot, she’s such an amazing guide for us women in rock. I’ve gotten great hair & makeup tips from Ash. I’m looking forward to meeting Maria for the first time!
Is there a particular city or performance you are most looking forward to and why?
Eeeek! I don’t know. I’m so excited for all of them. I can’t pick a favorite!
If you could describe this tour in just three words – what three words would you use?
Best. Tour. Ever.
