The Veer Union prove they really are unstoppable at first show of the “The Unstoppable Tour”
Things didn’t start off quite the way they had expected, but The Veer Union proved to fans in Columbus, OH on October 24 that the show must go on – even if your drummer is not able to get into the country because of issues with his visa and has to miss the show.
After briefly considering cancelling their first show on the “The Unstoppable Tour” with RED, Skyharbor, and Veio, Crispin Earl (lead vocals), Dan Sittler (lead guitar & backing vocals), and Ryan Ramsdell (rhythm guitar) decided they didn’t want to disappoint fans and that the show must go on. So the band, sans drummer Ricardo Viana, decided to play an acoustic set for the crowd at Newport Music Hall and it was phenomenal.
One of the things I love about The Veer Union is the passion and power in their lyrics – delivered with Earl’s incredible voice and supported with amazing harmonies by Sittler. Even in a “softer” acoustic set this combination enraptured not only me but everyone in the crowd. I also love their undying dedication to their music and to their fans. They refused to cancel despite all the challenges they faced that day and despite the fact that they hadn’t played a full acoustic show in over two years. They still rose to the occasion and fans were yelling out grateful cheers and thanks for not cancelling.
The trio kicked things off with “My Shadow” from their 2013 release Life Support Part I. I barely recognized the softer, slower acoustic version, but I enjoyed it all the same. They also played “Silent Gun” and “Bitter End” from Divide the Blackened Sky (2012) which is my favorite of The Veer Union records. They played their latest single, “Living not Alive”, from their most recent release Decade 2: Rock and Acoustic and of course their first hit song “Seasons” from their debut album Against the Grain. The guys wrapped up their set with their incredible acoustic cover of Linkin Park’s song “Numb.” It was a perfect way to end an awesome set.
In a pre-show interview with Earl, Sittler, and Ramsdell I did put in a plug to hear my all-time favorite The Veer Union song “I Will Remain”, but they said that while they love that song they have never played it live. New addition to my music bucket list! Hear more of my interview with The Veer Union below and if you get a chance definitely catch them live on the “The Unstoppable Tour”.
