Korean Fire Drills’ “More Badass Than Half Ass”
‘Tis the season to be jolly, but with the new release from Korean Fire Drill it will be the season to laugh your ass off. KFD’s sophomore, self-produced album More Badass Than Half Ass features 8 explosive and diverse originals, 4 fantastic remakes, 12 skits, and 1 secret track.
The album starts with a drum driven rock tune with vocals by Lydia Gavin (aka LydVish) proclaiming the superiority of the band…particularly over Kanye. The MF Fox is quite possibly the best song ever for learning the sounds the animals make, but not recommended to share with the kids. Scissor Sisters…yeah…what more is there to say? It’s a good one.
LydVish does an excellent job on the remake of the classic Heart tune Barracuda, and the remake of the Bloodhound Gang’s The Bad Touch is admirable, but the true star of the release is the hard rock charged rendition of Tupac and Dr. Dre’s California Love. The video for this song is also hilarious.
Original vocalist HazMatt hits us with an energetic anthem of partying and living life like a rock star (or at least like a member of KFD) in Live Like Us. The song makes you want to “throw your fists in the air” and “drink like us”, “sing like us”, and “dance like us.” Who doesn’t want that?
The skits are a series of snarky voice mail messages “journaling” the saga of Lydia Gavin’s integration into the band. They are more banter than skit, but they show the quirky chemistry amongst the group, which includes Gavin/LydVish, HazMatt, FYCarl, Blamo Bee-otch, and Chelsea the Go-Go Dancer.
And if all that doesn’t get you, there is The Secret Feel Good Track. What is it? Can’t tell you. It’s a secret. Buy the album and find out for yourself. You’ll like it.
Seriously. This album is just nothing but fun.
